What is the catch to Network Marketing?

There is a catch to everything in life, including network marketing

Lobster-Catching

Greetings!  Today I would like to talk about “The Catch” to network marketing.  I was listening to the audio book called ‘Go Pro’.  In the first few chapters, the author describes the five categories in which we fit into when it comes to making money.   They are the blue collar, white collar, sales, traditional business owner, and investor.  He then goes on to talk about a new way called network marketing.  They all have a catch, even this one.

The Catch

According to the author of ‘Go Pro’ here is the catch, “You must accept a temporary loss of social estate from ignorant people!”  What does this mean, how does it affect me, and why is this considered a catch to this industry?

What does this mean?

First let’s look and understand what is meant by ignorant people.  Growing up, we were all taught to go to school, get good grades, go to college, and get a great paying job.  That is the mindset we were all taught.  Therefore the average person is not familiar with network marketing, nor how to be a professional in this industry.  When they try it out and it doesn’t work they tell everyone that network marketing is a scam that doesn’t work, they say everyone just wanted to make money off me, etc…  These are the ignorant people being described here.  It’s not that they are stupid by any means. It is just that they are stuck in the normal way of thinking that they were taught growing up.  They can’t think outside the box they are stuck in.

How does this affect me?

A few months ago I posted a blog about How you Value Yourself.  We look at our self and evaluate what our self worth. This is how we proceed to subconsciously think about how others perceive us.  When we start sharing our business model to ‘ignorant people’ who don’t understand our profession, they may start talking down to us, stomping on us, and even beating us up for what we are doing.  That can play a major effect on self esteem and how we value ourselves.

Why is it a catch?

Most people like to go to work, do their job, and go home.  They don’t like playing office politics, they don’t like constructive criticism, or being talked down to.  Therefore, when someone new joins this industry and starts sharing this business with friends/family, they may get told this doesn’t work, oh you are doing one of those pyramid scams, you had such a good career ahead of you, I can’t believe you are in network marketing, etc….  It is these kinds of phrases and talk that we hear from “ignorant people’ that causes our self esteem to plummet and we start doubting our decision for joining.  This is when most people quit.  If you want to succeed you will have to find a way to get past these people by building up your self esteem and showing more people.  Getting a quick YES will quickly help you get you back on track!

Press on toward your Goals

We all started in this business with an end goal in mind. To reach that goal we will have to sort through some ignorant people, and suffer the temporary loss of self-esteem.  However, if we can get past this temporary loss and push toward the goal, we will see victory, reach our goals, and prove to all those doubters that not only is this is the best industry in the world, but it is where we can find Time, Money, and Freedom!
