Greetings! Today I would like the discuss the old adage, ‘How do you eat and Elephant?’ This can take on a lot of meanings in your life, but I would like to relate it to the goals/dreams of your business. If you have ever heard this question, then I’m sure you know the answer. The answer to the question, ‘How do you eat an elephant’, is of course, ‘One bite at a time.’
When you started your businesses, you sat down and created goals and you created dreams for where you wanted to be and how you would get there. Stephen Covey said to begin with the end in mind. Once you know where you are going, then you can figure out how to get there. You do that by taking one step at a time. Breaking your goals down by the year, by the month, by the week, and finally by the day. When you figure out how many people you need to share your business, how many follow-ups, how many parties on a daily basis, that is like taking the first bite out of the huge elephant.
To reach your goals, you have to take it one step at a time, just like you eat an elephant one bite at a time. It might seem like an overwhelming task, but it can be accomplished if you take it in manageable increments. Don’t focus on the end results of your business, but on the day to day tasks that will eventually get you to where you want to be.
Just remember, time is going to pass whether you work on your business or not. You can choose not to work on your business and three years from now be exactly where you are today. Or you can decide to spend some time each day working on your business, focusing on the small bite sized chunks instead of the overwhelming entire elephant.
Over time, you will eventually finish eating the elephant just like you will eventually reach your business goals and dreams. Just remember to take it one bite at a time!
